The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow commenced its work in the New Year 2019 on January 8, after the Russian Christmas—New Year holidays. The inaugural New Year’s ceremony in the Mission started with the singing of the National anthem of Sri Lanka, followed by two minutes of silence in commemoration of those, who sacrificed their lives for the Motherland. Ambassador Dayan Jayatilleka read the Oath of the Public Servant together with the staff members of the Mission.

Russian Foreign Ministry has informed that foreign citizens who visited Russia on the basis of FIFA World Cup 2018 Fan ID should leave the territory of the Russian Federation before the 31st December 2018, lest they are prosecuted for the breaching of migration laws of the Russian Federation. 

Any Sri Lankan fans, who have not left Russia, are advised to do so before the end of this year.

On December 21, 2018, H. E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka met with His Excellency Li Hui, the Ambassador of China to the Russian Federation, at the Chinese embassy in Moscow.

On December 19, 2018 Ambassador Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and Madame Sanja Jayatilleka went to the Bolshoi Theatre at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which customarily hosts Ambassadors and their wives for an annual festive seasonal reception at the Bolshoi. This year it was for the ballet performance of Don Quixote.

On 19 December 2018, The Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) hosted the traditional Asian Cultural Week, attracting hundreds of Asian students, including those of Sri Lanka, at the University premises.
