Ambassador-designate of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, Shobini Gunasekera assumed duties at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow on 19th February 2025, which also coincided with the 68th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and the Russian Federation.
Ambassador Gunasekera is a career diplomat with over 27 years of experience in diplomacy that includes various assignments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka's Missions abroad.

On 15 February 2025 Mr. Chamila Jayarathna, Сhargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation, participated in the Awarding Ceremony of Certificate in Russian Language to the students of the University of Vavuniya.

The Embassy in Moscow in collaboration with the Moscow Chamber of Commerce and Industry conducted an interactive B2B session for the delegates arrived to Moscow for participation in the International Food Fair Prodexpo 2025 on 5th February 2025.

On 10 February 2025, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia represented by Group Captain Sanoj Jayaratne, Counsellor (Defence), participated in the celebrations of the Kursk State Medical University (KSMU) dedicated to its 90th anniversary.

On 06 February 2025, Сhargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation Mr. Chamila Jayarathna visited the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany to express the heartfelt condolences to the people of Germany and to pay tribute to the former Federal President Professor Horst Kohler who passed away on 1 February.

On February 05, 2025, Сhargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation Mr. Chamila Jayarathna took part in the special event of friendship organized by the Russian Association for International Cooperation and Friendship Society with Sri Lanka on the occasion of the 77th Independence Day of Sri Lanka.
