The State Ministry of Regional Cooperation, recognizing the potential of Sri Lanka's natural resources to contribute to the country's economy, has been facilitating to explore means by which the country could sustainably harness minerals for Sri Lanka's economic growth.

H.E. Prof. M.D. Lamawansa, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Kazakhstan and an Embassy delegation comprised of Mr. Mohamed Anas, DHM, Minister Counsellor, Dr. Thamaramala Kannangara, spouse of H.E. the Ambassador, and Ms. Olessya Romanova, PA to Ambassador paid their first official visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Upon the request made by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow, the Sri Lankan Business and Professional Society has donated medical equipment to the Sri Lankan hospitals to treat patients with Covid-19

In the framework of the visit to the XXIV St. Petersburg International Economic Forum which was held from 2-5 June 2021, Sri Lankan delegation led by Hon. Wimal Weerawansa, Minister of Industries of Sri Lanka and Hon. Ajith Nivard Cabraal State Minister of Money & Capital Market and State Enterprise Reforms of Sri Lanka visited the Hermitage museum in St. Petersburg. H.E. Prof. M.D. Lamawansa, Ambassador of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation also joined the two Sri Lankan ministers in this visit.

Besides the visit to the XXIV St. Petersburg International Economic Forum which was held from 2-5 June 2021, Hon. Wimal Weerawansa, Minister of Industries of Sri Lanka and Hon.
