ARTICLE OF SRI LANKA TEA BOARD ON THE OCCASION OF CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL TEA DAY - 21ST MAY 2021
International Tea Day is a United Nations observance celebrated annually on May 21 to express the economical, biological and physical benefits of tea. It was inaugurated by the General Assembly and essentially replaced the unofficial observance of the same name, which used to be celebrated on December 15 in tea producing countries. The observance of International Tea Day is promoted and facilitated by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization in collaboration with other relevant organizations and stakeholders.

Sri Lanka takes part in celebrations of 76th anniversary of Victory Day in Russia

At the invitation of the Main Directorate for International Military Cooperation of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, members of the military-diplomatic corps, accredited in Russia, took part in the solemn events, dedicated to the 76th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945.
On 8 May, Gp Capt Uditha Piyasena, Counsellor, Defence, at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow, visited the "Patriot" Park and the main Cathedral of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, where a special prayer service was held to commemorate the Victory Day. This service was attended by active servicemen, cadets from military universities, foreign Defence attaches and Deputy Defence Ministers Alexander Fomin and Andrei Kartapolov.

Group Captain Uditha Piyasena, Counsellor, Defence, at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow, joined the group of about 80 representatives of the military and diplomatic corps from 52 countries, accredited in Russia, who visited the Ashuluk training ground of the 185th Centre for combat training and combat use of Aerospace Forces of Russia in the Astrakhan region on April 27-28, 2021.
