Hon. Prasanna Ranatunga, Minister of Tourism of Sri Lanka met Ms. Elena Lysenkova, Deputy Head of the Federal Agency of Tourism of the Russian Federation on 03rd August 2021 in Moscow. Mr. Smilevets Demyan Olegovich, Head of the Department of the International Cooperation of the Federal Agency of Tourism also joined the meeting. Welcoming the Sri Lankan delegation, Ms. Elena mentioned Sri Lanka is one of the favourite tourist destinations for Russian tourists and in his opening remarks, Hon. Minister of Tourism of Sri Lanka mentioned Sri Lanka is eagerly awaiting to welcome Russian visitors. The Sri Lanka Embassy in Russian Federation facilitated this meeting.

On 31st July 2021, Moscow's Domodedovo Airport welcomed SriLankan Airlines' inaugural flight to Moscow, Russia with a water salute. The Chairman of SriLankan Airlines appreciated the valuable support given by the Sri Lanka Embassy in Russian Federation in facilitating the resumption of SriLankan Airlines, the National Carrier of Sri Lanka, direct flights to Moscow after a break of 6 years. This is a significant air link for SriLankan Airlines as it will connect to the largest country in the world which is also known as one of the greatest cultural and historic destinations.

In the evening of 21st July 2021, a farewell reception was hosted by H. E. Prof. M.D. Lamawansa at the Embassy premises for a strong representation of the diplomatic corps, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Rossoboronexport, and Russia Sri Lanka Friendship Society.

In the framework of the Embassy initiative to establish strong links between Sri Lankan and Russian schools, the Embassy conducted a follow-up meeting between the Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka, Governor of the Sabaragamuwa, Governor of the Central Province, Director of Moscow School No. 1250 and their staff.

The commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugethenne and the delegation arrived at Russian Federation on 22nd July at the invitation of the Commander in Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov. The delegation had a Call On with HE the Ambassador Prof. MD Lamawansa at the Embassy in Moscow prior to the departure to Saint Petersburg attend the events.

On 20th July 2021, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia H.E. Prof. M.D. Lamawansa paid a farewell visit to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador H.E. Prof. Lamawansa was received by the Director of the Second Asian Department H.E. Zamir Kabulov.
