Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia Prof. Janitha Abeywickrema Liyanage visits Kalmykia, Russia
On September 14, 2023, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation H.E. Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage arrived to the Republic of Kalmykia at the invitation of the Head of the Republic Mr. Batu Khasikov.
The delegation was traditionally welcomed with the white khadaks (scarfs), symbols of wellbeing and purity of thoughts, and received by the Head of the region H.E. Mr. Batu Khasikov and Chairman of the Government Ms. Gilyana Boskhomdzhieva at the Government House of the Republic. The sides discussed the common areas of interest for developing cooperation between Sri Lanka and Kalmykia, including trade and economic, education, Buddhist studies, tourism etc.

Following the initiative of Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Moscow, to establish collaboration between the Department of Chemistry of the Moscow State University (MSU) and its Sri Lankan counterparts, 11 September 2023 an introductory meeting took place between the Department representatives, the University of Vavuniya (UV), the Open University of Sri Lanka (OUSL) and the Uva Wellassa University (UWU).

Students of the Russian Language and Culture Center successfully pass exams on the platform of Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine
Following opening of the I. Yakovlev Center for the Study of the Russian Language and Culture established by the I. Yakovev Chuvash State Pedagogical University on the platform of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine with the support of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia, 150 students successfully completed their studies in the Center.
