19 – 31 August 2023 sports teams from Sri Lankan Universities took part in the University International Sports Festival in Yekaterinburg, Russia, with participation of the teams from the BRICS countries, Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states and CIS countries.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation facilitated establishment of links between Geo Ventures Consultancy (PVT) LTD and Alabuga Start, a relocation program to Russia for work experience.

The combined team of all three Sri Lankan Defence Services participated in the 1st International Military Sports Council (CISM) Military Rugby-7 Challenge, which was held in Moscow, Russia from 22 August to 27 August 2023. The team competed with participants from Russia, South Africa, Belarus and Bangladesh at the stadium of the sports complex in "Luzhniki" and came third in the competition.

H.E. the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation and the Secretary of the Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka took part in the I International Buddhist Forum in Ulan-Ude, Russia
The I International Buddhist Forum "Traditional Buddhism and Challenges of Modernity", which was held 17-19 August 2023 was attended by over 600 people from 13 countries including representatives of science, authorities, politicians, religious figures and monks.

Following the visit of Hon. Bandula Gunawardena, Minister of Transport of Sri Lanka, to Russia, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Moscow organized an online introductory meeting between the Rostov State Transport University (RSTU) and the Sri Lanka Railways.

07 – 16 August 2023, the NSBM Green University of Sri Lanka organized a Global Youth Camp – 2023, which gathered students from such countries as Russia, Great Britain, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, the USA and other countries enabling them to learn, while experiencing culture, history and nature of Sri Lanka.
