After the visit of Prof. Janitha A. Liyanage to the Nizhny Novgorod region, the Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Novgorod (UNN) expressed its willingness to establish cooperation with Sri Lankan Universities and the University of Vavuniya showed reciprocal interest.

Following opening of the I. Yakovlev Center for the Study of the Russian Language and Culture established by the I. Yakovev Chuvash State Pedagogical University on the platform of the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine with the support of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Russia, 150 students successfully completed their studies in the Center.

19 – 31 August 2023 sports teams from Sri Lankan Universities took part in the University International Sports Festival in Yekaterinburg, Russia, with participation of the teams from the BRICS countries, Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states and CIS countries.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation facilitated establishment of links between Geo Ventures Consultancy (PVT) LTD and Alabuga Start, a relocation program to Russia for work experience.

The combined team of all three Sri Lankan Defence Services participated in the 1st International Military Sports Council (CISM) Military Rugby-7 Challenge, which was held in Moscow, Russia from 22 August to 27 August 2023. The team competed with participants from Russia, South Africa, Belarus and Bangladesh at the stadium of the sports complex in "Luzhniki" and came third in the competition.

The I International Buddhist Forum "Traditional Buddhism and Challenges of Modernity", which was held 17-19 August 2023 was attended by over 600 people from 13 countries including representatives of science, authorities, politicians, religious figures and monks.
